Tennis fans are praying Roger Federer will return to action despite the Swiss star announcing he will miss five tournaments this year.

Federer has undergone knee surgery and will not return to the court until June, at the earliest.

At 38, many believe the 20-time Grand Slam winner is close to calling it quits, though Federer is yet to announce a retirement date.

In a statement on Twitter, he wrote: "My right knee has been bothering me for a little while.
"I hoped it would go away but after an examination and discussion with my team, I have decided to have arthroscopic surgery in Switzerland yesterday.

And it has left fans of Federer fearing the worst as they beg the star to return to action.
