拉萨拉萨Lhasa拉萨区面积868平方千米，人口12．98万(1993)。有藏、汉、叫等民族，藏族占85 1l/。以上。居民多信奉藏传佛教，为西藏宗教中心。唐文成公主人藏与吐蕃王松赞干布结亲后，于公元647年修筑惹萨珠囊(令大昭寺)。9世纪初形成城市，以寺为象征称“惹萨”。“拉萨”由“惹萨”转音而得名。藏语为“圣地”、“佛地”之意。秦属古羌。汉以后，原为苏毗部落放牧地，称卧马塘，后破吐蕃兼并。松赞干布统一西藏后，于唐贞观七年(633)迂都于此，实行唐蕃结盟，兴建宫室、寺院，发展佛教。会吕二年(842)吐蕃王朝崩溃，形成分割局而，拉萨城日趋萧条。13世纪中叶，元朝统一中国，设宣政院，负责管理西藏事务，在宣政院下，由西藏佛教萨迦派首领八思巳总管西藏地方的政教事务，是西藏政教合一的开始。15吐纪以后，拉萨一直是西藏的政冶、经济、宗教、文化中心。清雍正六年(1’728)，清政府派大臣征拉萨设置驻戒大臣衙门，督办西藏政务。1951年西藏和平解放，中国人民解放军随即进驻拉萨。1 956年西藏地方歧府成立，政府机关驻此。1960年设市。拉萨地处冈底斯山东延余脉与念青唐古拉山西段南麓地区的拉萨河谷平原上，海拔3 650米。周围高山环布，谷地宽阔平坦。拉萨河是雅鲁喊布江北岸的较大支流之～，发源于念青唐古拉山脉，由东而西流经市区南缘。主河道呈s形，河道和河漫滩宽1．5～2千米，最宽处达8千米。拉萨河拉萨温带半干旱季风气候。年平均气温7．5℃，1月平均气温一2．3℃，7月平均气温14．9℃。年平均降水量453．9毫米，6—9月为雨季，多夜雨，占降水总量的85％。终年无霾无雾，能见度好，日照充足，有“目光城”之称。平原地带地下水位高，土地肥沃，是白冶区主要农业区之一。主要农作物有青稞、小麦、油菜等。旷产资源有铜、锌、磁铁矿等。工业有电力、水泥、煤炭、化工、汽车修配、皮革、制药、织毯、面粉等。手工加工业兴旺。纳金电站在市东郊15千米处，是拉萨现有最大的水电站。市区现代建筑和交通设施较好，八角街、人民路、幸福路为市区主要街道。拉萨为全区交通枢纽，公路干线有拉萨一西宁、拉萨一成都、拉萨一亚东、拉萨一狮泉河～叶城、拉萨一芒康～下关、拉萨一友谊桥一加德满都等。民航通往成都、北京、格尔木、西安、兰州等地。建有卫星地面接收站，通信设施日趋完善。格尔木至拉萨建有青藏输油管道。
