Chinese animation One Small Step has been nominated (提名) for Best Animated Short Film at the 91st Academy Awards. The film draws inspiration (灵感) from the stories of China’s women astronauts Liu Yang and Wang Yaping. It follows the story of Luna, a Chinese-American girl who dreams of becoming an astronaut.
Luna is a young girl and she lives with her loving father in a city. Raising Luna alone, her father works hard in his small shoe repair shop. After watching a rocket fly into space on TV, Luna is driven to reach for the stars. So Luna’s father gives her a pair of rocket-patterned (火箭图案的) shoes on her birthday, as a way to show his support (支持) for his daughter. As Luna grows up, she goes to college to achieve her dream. However, she meets all kinds of problems and continues to fail (失败). It makes her upset. What’s worse, her father died. She falls into a depression (消沉). One day, walking into her father’s shop, Luna sees the shoes Dad made for her. That lifts her spirits. She works harder and becomes an astronaut finally.
